Himachal CM Announces Installation of 2 MW Solar Power Plant in Kaza

Shimla, Jan 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, revealed on Sunday that a two megawatt (MW) solar power facility has been established to bolster and enhance the electricity supply in the isolated area of Kaza within the Lahaul-Spiti district.

He commended the dedication of the officials and staff at the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd for their hard work in executing this project. He noted that the plant is projected to become fully operational in a few months with the inclusion of a one MWh battery storage system.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state administration is concentrating on maximizing the utilization of solar energy to transform Himachal Pradesh into a ‘green state’. In line with this initiative, EV charging stations are being established in various locations based on local demand.

Additionally, he mentioned that the government has sanctioned the development of 18 MW of ground-mounted and rooftop solar installations on unused land adjacent to electricity board offices. Furthermore, the state is working towards equipping 50,000 houses across the state with rooftop solar systems by the year 2026-27.

Currently, there have been 4,444 applications submitted for this initiative. CM Sukhu indicated that

the administration is implementing strategies to make Himachal Pradesh self-sufficient through the effective management of state resources.

These strategies include optimizing electricity subsidies and staffing levels. He noted that the power project agreements made by the electricity board are under assessment and that loans acquired at high-interest rates will be reevaluated.

This initiative aims to assist the board in repaying loans at more favorable interest rates and alleviate its financial liabilities.

The actions taken will be vital for achieving self-reliance for the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited.

He further asserted that the state government is devoted to protecting the interests of its employees and enhancing their welfare by consistently providing them with financial benefits.
