Manali, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, officially commenced the 2026 Manali Winter Carnival on Tuesday at the popular tourist destination of Manali in the Kullu district.
As part of the festivities, the Chief Minister inaugurated around 300 vibrant tableaux that showcased the developmental initiatives undertaken by various departments.
During the ceremony, he revealed plans for a riverfront project in Manali, which is set to cost Rs 250 crore, aimed at enhancing tourism. Additionally, he announced the construction of five new rooms at the Circuit House in Manali, the installation of protective walls at seven key flood-prone areas, a parking facility in Old Manali worth Rs 2 crore, and a financial commitment of Rs 25 lakh to aid Solang and Karal villages in landslide prevention.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Himachal Pradesh draws visitors from across India and around the globe, thanks to its stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural diversity, historical significance, and warm hospitality. The state sees millions of tourists each year.
He further mentioned that the government is dedicated to hosting significant events, like the Winter Carnival, at major tourist spots to ensure unforgettable experiences for visitors.
CM Sukhu noted that tourism forms a crucial component of the state's economy, with aspirations to position Himachal Pradesh as an international hub for nature, religious, adventure, spiritual, and wellness tourism. In line with this vision, green Himachal biodiversity parks and riverside parks are being established in both urban and rural settings.
He announced the introduction of a new eco-tourism policy, under which 11 eco-tourism sites will be allocated by November 2025, with 27 additional sites nearing finalization. This initiative aims to not only boost tourism but also foster local self-employment.
To encourage trekking, a total of 245 trekking routes have been identified, and a mobile application is being developed for tourist convenience. Furthermore, ropeway projects are being expedited with environmental conservation in mind.
The Chief Minister shared that regulations have been revised to support home stay tourism, and an interest subsidy scheme has been initiated for home stay units. New home stays or expansions and upgrades to existing ones can receive interest subsidies on investments up to Rs 5 crore, with varying rates of 3% in urban areas, 4% in rural regions, and 5% in tribal areas.
