Shimla, March 10 (NationPress) In a bid to foster collaboration with the state government, Himachal Pradesh's newly sworn-in Governor Kavinder Gupta announced on Tuesday his commitment to advancing environmental initiatives, especially in enhancing green cover, preserving cultural heritage, and boosting religious tourism.

Having served a seven-month term in the picturesque region of Ladakh, Governor Gupta shared that he has traveled over 10,000 km during this time, equipping him with insights into the challenges faced by hilly terrains.

The oath of office was administered in Lok Bhavan in Hindi by High Court Chief Justice, Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, during a modest yet dignified ceremony.

Present at the event were Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh and his wife Mitra Ghosh, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Lady Governor Bindu Gupta, among others.

In a historic first for Lok Bhavan, the ceremony commenced with the singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the national anthem.

The Governor was honored with a ceremonial guard of honor during the proceedings.

Earlier that morning, Governor Gupta performed a pooja with his family before heading to the oath-taking ceremony.

During a media interaction, the Governor expressed his appreciation to President Droupadi Murmu for his appointment to this constitutional role. He stated his intention to operate strictly in accordance with the Constitution and maintain close ties with the state government.

"The position of Governor carries constitutional responsibilities. The Governor is politically neutral and works towards the comprehensive development of both the state and its society," he remarked.

Governor Gupta emphasized his dedication to continuing the initiatives launched by previous Governors and sought the Chief Minister and state government's collaboration to prioritize their completion.

Highlighting Himachal Pradesh's status as a leader in education, the Governor indicated that enhancing the quality of education would be a primary focus.

Drawing parallels from his experience as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, he noted the geographical similarities between Himachal Pradesh and regions like Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

"During my time in Ladakh, I covered over 10,000 km in just seven months, gaining a profound understanding of the challenges in hilly areas," he explained.

He also expressed admiration for the warmth and hospitality of the people of Himachal Pradesh.

Stressing the significance of quality education, skill development, and the effective execution of the National Education Policy, he called for the integration of Indian values with contemporary education.

Additionally, he mentioned that there would be a focus on tribal development, promoting natural farming, youth welfare, and intensifying the ongoing fight against drug abuse.

Efforts will also be directed towards ensuring the effective implementation of central schemes aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in the state's remote regions.

Governor Gupta further underscored the necessity of development in border areas adjacent to China, advocating for the promotion of schemes like the Vibrant Village Programme.

With optimism, he expressed that, with the cooperation of the state government, together with both ruling and opposition parties, as well as social and voluntary organizations, collaborative endeavors will elevate Himachal Pradesh toward new horizons of inclusive and sustainable development.
