Shimla, March 20 (NationPress) In a significant relief for former Union Sports Minister and current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur, the Himachal Pradesh High Court ruled on Thursday allowing him to submit his nomination for the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) elections.

Justice Ajay Mohan Goel instructed the BFI to extend the nomination deadline to allow Thakur to file his nomination and enable him to represent the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association (HPBA) at the BFI's annual general meeting, allowing him full participation, including the opportunity to contest for any position within the BFI.

The electoral proceedings will be subject to the final decision regarding the petition filed by the HPBA against the rejection of Thakur's nomination by BFI President Ajay Singh.

In his interim order, the court suspended the notification dated March 7, 2025, along with the rejection of nomination for one of the two nominated members, Anurag Singh Thakur, and directed the Boxing Federation of India to accept Thakur's nomination as valid for the electoral process.

While reviewing a petition contesting the rejection notice, Justice Goel noted, "the BFI President is not the general council of the sports body and cannot unilaterally issue any notice regarding the interpretation or implementation of BFI regulations."

The ruling clarified that BFI's regulations do not stipulate that only officially elected members of state units affiliated with the BFI may be nominated for the electoral college.

Consequently, the court firmly stated that the notice dated March 7, 2025 was issued by the BFI President without the requisite authority and contravened the organization's rules and regulations, thus rendering it invalid.
