Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration Honors Late PM Manmohan Singh

Shimla, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, declared on Wednesday that the Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) will be renamed in honor of the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh as a tribute.

He acknowledged Dr. Singh's influential policies that significantly contributed to the progress of both India and Himachal Pradesh, stating that his initiatives have brought numerous benefits and recognition to the region.

Dr. Singh passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah, Punjab (now in Pakistan), he was a prominent economist and political figure who held the office of Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

During the 50th anniversary celebration of HIPA, the Chief Minister unveiled a commemorative coffee table book. He also launched a training program for special educators at the institute, which will engage 80 teachers and is set to continue until January 3.

This initiative aims to equip teachers with contemporary methods for instructing children with special needs, providing an alternative to traditional Braille techniques. In a move towards inclusive development, the Chief Minister announced an increase in the monthly pension for visually impaired children, raising it from Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000 until they reach the age of 27.

This adjustment will be included in the forthcoming budget, aiming to foster self-reliance among the visually impaired.

Sukhinder Sukhu highlighted that Himachal Pradesh generates an annual income of Rs 16,000 crore, while its expenditure on salaries and pensions stands at Rs 27,000 crore. He stressed the necessity for a sustainable financial strategy and called for cooperative efforts from all societal sectors to boost the state's income for a prosperous future.

He also noted that over the past two years, the current government has worked diligently to stabilize the previously disrupted financial situation, with the support of employees and officials.

Congratulating the officials and employees of HIPA on its 50th anniversary, he emphasized that good governance has been the central principle of the Congress government, and effective technology-driven training programs for officials are vital to actualizing good governance.
