Shimla, June 3 (NationPress) Himachal Pradesh is set to present 78 unique species, featuring the Asiatic lion, hog deer, monitor lizard, crocodile, ghadiyal, and numerous avian species at a newly established zoological park in the Kangra district. This park will also include a wetland aviary dedicated to local bird species, as stated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Tuesday.
The Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park is expected to significantly enhance tourism and create both employment and self-employment opportunities.
With its stunning natural surroundings, distinctive attractions, and eco-conscious design, the park is poised to position Kangra district as the tourism capital of the state, according to an official announcement by Chief Minister Sukhu.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sukhu inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for six projects totaling Rs 100 crore in the Dehra Assembly constituency, revealing that the zoological park is being developed at Bankhandi with an investment of Rs 619 crore.
In the initial phase, Rs 150 crore will be allocated for the construction of 43 enclosures.
Approximately 90 percent of the boundary wall has been completed, along with the construction of eight check dams.
The Chief Minister has instructed the development of additional check dams to enhance rainwater harvesting.
He emphasized that the park will serve not only as a tourist attraction but also as a model of sustainable infrastructure, merging conservation with innovation.
