New Delhi, Oct 5 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the nation's pioneering cooperative compressed biogas plant in Kopargaon, Maharashtra, on Sunday, underscoring the farmer-centric initiatives of the Narendra Modi administration. This facility represents a crucial step forward in India's ambition to enhance green energy adoption and bolster the cooperative sector.
Describing the event as a proud moment for the nation, the Union Minister emphasized the transformative vision of Prime Minister Modi, which has turned the cooperative movement into a vital engine for rural economic empowerment.
He stated, “Through the establishment of the cooperative sector, PM Modi has created a new lifeline for the rural economy of the country. The cooperative sector is becoming a robust foundation for India's growth,” he added.
During his address, Shah mentioned that under PM Modi's guidance, 15 cooperative sugar factories nationwide will soon be selected to implement similar biogas projects, supported by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), to foster sustainable rural industries.
Highlighting the government's dedication to farmers, he referred to the recent launch of the 'Dalhan Atmanirbharta Project' on October 1, an ambitious ₹11,340-crore initiative aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in pulses.
Shah stated, “The Modi government is committed to supporting our farmers. Under this initiative, farmers growing pigeon pea, black gram pea, and red lentils will have the opportunity to sell their harvest at Minimum Support Price (MSP) through NAFED and NCCF. The government guarantees the procurement of 100 percent of these pulses.”
He also revealed plans for the establishment of 1,000 processing units and the distribution of 38 lakh high-quality seed kits to farmers.
Recently, the Union government has raised the MSP for masoor by ₹300 per quintal, mustard by ₹250, and chana by ₹225.
Reiterating PM Modi's call for sustainability, Union Minister Shah encouraged citizens to participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, urging them to plant two trees—one in honor of Mother Earth and the other in their mother's name—to combat climate change.
He concluded, “Prime Minister Modi has propelled India’s economy from the 11th to the 4th position globally. To ascend to the top, embracing 'Swadeshi' is essential.”
