Hyderabad, March 13 (NationPress) The Telangana Police in both Hyderabad and Cyberabad have enacted specific restrictions regarding the Holi festivities to ensure public safety and order. This decision has sparked notable backlash from the BJP, which claims that the Congress government is attempting to limit the observance of this significant Hindu celebration.
The police have prohibited the act of "throwing colors or colored water at unwilling individuals, vehicles, or places, as well as applying color on those who do not wish to participate on public roads and areas in Hyderabad."
Issuing separate notifications, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C. V. Anand and Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty have acted under the authority granted to them by the Hyderabad City Police Act.
Moreover, the movement of two-wheelers and other vehicles in groups on public thoroughfares has also been restricted to prevent any disruption to public peace and safety.
This directive will be effective from 6 p.m. on March 13 until 6 a.m. on March 15 in Hyderabad, while in Cyberabad, it will be enforced from 6 a.m. on March 14 to 6 a.m. on March 15.
The Police Commissioners made it clear that any individual who does not comply with this order could face prosecution under section 76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act.
In response, the BJP has condemned the Congress government in Telangana for these restrictive orders. BJP MLA Raja Singh referred to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy as the ‘9th Nizam’.
“Will you dictate how we should celebrate Holi?” Raja Singh questioned. The MLA representing Goshamahal in Hyderabad asserted that no similar restrictions were placed during the Muslim holy month of Ramzan.
He accused the Congress government of only enforcing limits on the celebration of Hindu festivals.
The BJP leader challenged why the Congress government has not issued directives asking Muslims to pray at home instead of gathering on the streets.
