Holi, known as the ‘festival of colors’, is among India's most vibrant and popularly celebrated festivals. It represents the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and new beginnings. The festivities involve people applying colors on one another, enjoying music, sharing traditional sweets, and bonding with family and friends.
The origins of Holi are rooted in ancient Indian mythology, with one of the most famous tales being that of Prahlada and his aunt Holika. The story narrates how the demon king Hiranyakashyap opposed his son Prahlada's devotion to Lord Vishnu and plotted his demise. Hiranyakashyap enlisted Holika's help, who possessed a boon that made her fireproof. She sat with Prahlada in a raging fire, intending to incinerate him. However, due to his unwavering faith in Lord Vishnu, Prahlada remained unscathed while Holika perished in the flames. The burning of Holika, celebrated as Holika Dahan, symbolizes the triumph of virtue over vice.
