Chennai, July 8 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has released a weather advisory signaling a significant increase in temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the upcoming days, fueled by robust westerly winds at lower tropospheric levels.
As per the RMC, dry weather will prevail in most parts of the state throughout the week. The advisory indicates that maximum temperatures may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius on July 8 and 9 in various districts within Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
This temperature increase is linked to moderate to strong westerly winds affecting the region at lower atmospheric levels. The peak temperature is anticipated on July 9, with numerous areas likely to experience both intense heat and elevated humidity.
The RMC has advised residents to exercise caution against heat-related health issues, particularly during peak daytime hours.
On Monday, Madurai Airport recorded the highest temperature in the state at 39 degrees Celsius, while Karur Paramathi noted the lowest for the day.
Chennai is also expected to see rising temperatures, with forecasts indicating that the mercury could exceed 38 degrees Celsius.
“Light to moderate rainfall is, however, anticipated in certain parts of the city,” the RMC added.
In spite of the prevailing heatwave-like conditions, isolated rainfall is also projected across the region. Light to moderate showers are expected in select areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until July 13, potentially providing some relief, especially in hilly and forested locales.
On Monday, Naduvattam in The Nilgiris district recorded the highest rainfall at 6 cm, followed by Avalanche (also in The Nilgiris) with 5 cm, and Chinnakallar in Coimbatore district with 4 cm.
The RMC continues to monitor the situation and urges residents to stay informed through official channels, remain hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and take precautions during unexpected rain showers.
