Kolkata, Dec 10 (NationPress) A fresh controversy has emerged surrounding suspended Trinamool Congress leader and Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir. He has engaged security personnel from Hyderabad, citing threats to his life following the laying of a foundation stone for a mosque designed in the style of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district.
On Wednesday, Kabir disclosed that he had been receiving multiple threats, prompting him to hire eight security guards from Hyderabad.
The guards have assumed responsibility for Humayun's safety since Wednesday morning.
Kabir had expressed concerns that the government led by Mamata Banerjee could revoke his security detail after his suspension from the party. However, as of Wednesday, there had been no official word regarding the withdrawal of his security by the state. In fact, the three constables assigned to the MLA's protection remain in place.
Despite this, Kabir opted to bolster his security independently. "Someone could potentially harm me. I have been receiving threats. I affirm, Allah is present. Even if I am killed, I will proceed with the mosque's construction," he stated.
Reports indicate that Humayun acquired the private security personnel through a company based in Hyderabad.
In relation to his situation, he mentioned: "I regularly receive death threats. Several of my family members, friends, and relatives possess licensed firearms. However, there are restrictions regarding their use for the safety of others. After weighing all factors, I decided to recruit these guards from a Hyderabad-based firm. Until I receive protection as mandated by the court, these guards will ensure my safety at all times."
Last week, Humayun Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress following his decision to lay the foundation stone of a mosque styled after the Babri Masjid in the Beldanga area of Murshidabad. This event took place on December 6, amidst objections from the Trinamool Congress leadership.
Moreover, Kabir reiterated his intention to form a political alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
"I aim to ally with Owaisi Sahib (Asaduddin Owaisi). I have communicated with AIMIM's supreme leader. I've been invited to Hyderabad and plan to attend the meeting. I maintain a good rapport with Asaduddin Sahib's brother," Kabir remarked.
Simultaneously, the suspended Trinamool leader is currently facing challenges in acquiring the 30 bighas of land necessary for the mosque's construction.
Initially, he had announced plans to lay the foundation stone in Beldanga.
Ultimately, due to land shortages, he was only able to lay a symbolic foundation on three kathas of land in Chetiani, located under the Rejinagar police station's jurisdiction.
Despite stating that construction of the mosque would commence next February, the Trinamool MLA is actively negotiating with land donors to secure the required 30 bighas in Beldanga.
