New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) The top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a critical meeting with all party MLAs from Manipur in New Delhi this Sunday. Party leaders suggest that the focus of the discussions will likely revolve around the formation of the government.
With increasing speculation about establishing a new government and growing demands from numerous BJP MLAs and leaders for the party to take the initiative in forming the next government, this meeting has gained substantial political significance.
Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh confirmed the Sunday meeting in the national capital, stating that the central leadership has mandated every BJP MLA from the state to be present.
At an event commemorating the 86th Nupi Lal Day, he noted that while no formal agenda has been disclosed, discussions about forming a new government are expected.
“BJP MLAs have been summoned to Delhi to assess the situation in Manipur. Although the exact agenda has not been specified, it may relate to government formation,” he informed the media.
Since February 13, strife-torn Manipur has been under President’s Rule, following the resignation of N. Biren Singh from his role as Chief Minister just four days prior.
The 60-member state Assembly, now under suspended animation after the imposition of President's Rule, is scheduled to serve until 2027.
Last month, two senior national BJP figures — B. L. Santhosh, National General Secretary (Organisation), and Sambit Patra, the party’s Northeast coordinator — spent three days in Manipur, conducting multiple meetings with local party leaders and MLAs, which has led to increased speculation regarding the potential formation of a new government in the region.
In October, 26 BJP MLAs, including Biren Singh, met with Santhosh and Patra in New Delhi, urging them to “install a popular government” in Manipur, and expressed their willingness to return to governance as a united group.
Recently, former Chief Minister Biren Singh stated that all BJP legislators in Manipur are united in their efforts to establish a popular government in the state.
He emphasized that the process of government formation is already ongoing, while choosing not to comment on the individual views expressed by legislators.
Concerned about the conditions of violence-affected Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in relief camps, Singh highlighted the urgent requirement to tackle their issues and enhance their living conditions.
“Once a popularly elected government is in place, addressing the challenges faced by displaced families and other state concerns will be the government’s foremost priority,” he added.
