Imphal, Oct 14 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, stated on Tuesday that the law and order situation in the state has improved following the imposition of President's Rule on February 13. Returning from meetings in New Delhi, Singh indicated that the process of establishing a new government will be managed by the Central leaders of the BJP in due time.

Singh, who resigned from his position on February 9, just days before the implementation of President’s Rule due to ongoing ethnic violence, along with 25 BJP MLAs, traveled to Delhi to engage in discussions with the party’s central leadership.

Prior to his visit, the former Chief Minister mentioned his intention to inform the Central leaders about various state issues, including the formation of a widely accepted government.

He remarked, "The BJP is a national party, not a regional one. Decisions regarding the new government cannot be made in Imphal; they will be taken at a national level."

Criticizing the Congress party, Singh stated, "One party previously insisted that the government should be removed. Now, they are calling for the assembly's dissolution. We will not adhere to their demands; we will act according to the people’s will.”

Among the MLAs who visited Delhi last week were former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Assembly Speaker Satyabrata Singh, and former ministers including Thongam Biswajit Singh, Sapam Ranjan Singh, Heikham Dingo, Yumkham Khemchand, and Konthoujam Govindas.

The MLAs met with BJP North-East in-charge and Lok Sabha MP Sambit Patra, along with the party’s National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh.

MLA Karam Shyam reported that both Patra and Santhosh assured them of a positive approach towards reinstating an elected government. He noted that the recent discussions showcased a “visible concern and commitment” from the party’s central leadership.

“Previously, the talks seldom addressed reinstating a popular government. However, this time, Sambit Patra and B.L. Santhosh demonstrated clear interest in the matter. We are optimistic about the formation of a government soon,” Karam Shyam mentioned.

Former Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh emphasized that the delegation's primary goal was to inform central leaders about the political and security conditions in Manipur and advocate for the prompt restoration of an elected government.

“We underscored the necessity of establishing a popular government to ensure stability and public trust. The discussions were promising, and we anticipate a favorable outcome soon,” he stated.

While no specific timeline was provided for the new government’s formation, the legislators noted that the 60-member Manipur Assembly, which is currently under suspended animation following the promulgation of President’s Rule, has a term lasting until 2027.
