Key Takeaways
Imphal, Feb 1 (NationPress) Senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Central level are anticipated to engage in a significant meeting with the party's MLAs and its NDA partners from Manipur in New Delhi on Monday to deliberate on vital matters affecting the state, as reported by party insiders on Sunday.
As per the insiders, a substantial number of MLAs from both the BJP and its allied parties have already arrived in New Delhi, while others are en route.
Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Manipur BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi are leading the delegation of MLAs.
Prior to departing Imphal for New Delhi, Sharda Devi stated that all NDA MLAs have been summoned by the Central leadership of the BJP to address various state-related issues.
"We are anticipating discussions around the government formation issue," she informed the media.
Former Chief Minister Biren Singh expressed optimism about the meeting's outcome, noting that since all NDA partners have been invited, it is expected to yield positive results.
"We were simply instructed to convene in Delhi for a meeting. No specific agenda was provided to us," he added.
The President's Rule in Manipur was imposed on February 13 of the previous year, just four days after Biren Singh stepped down as Chief Minister.
This President's Rule is set to conclude on February 12.
The 60-member Manipur Assembly, with a tenure extending until 2027, has remained in suspended animation.
Post the imposition of President's Rule, senior leaders from the Centre, including BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh and the party’s Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra, conducted multiple meetings with Manipur MLAs in both New Delhi and Imphal.
Previously, on December 14, the Manipur BJP Legislature Party convened at the party's headquarters in New Delhi to discuss the peace process and other critical matters concerning the violence-affected state.
Over 34 BJP MLAs attended the meeting, which included former Chief Minister Biren Singh and State Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, alongside B.L. Santhosh, Sambit Patra, and Manipur BJP President Sharda Devi.
In a statement on its official X account, the BJP noted: "The Manipur BJP Legislature Party meeting was held today at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, attended by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh and the party's Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra."
"The discussions focused on peace and progress in Manipur," the party added.
The BJP holds 37 MLAs in the state Assembly, while its NDA allies—the National People's Party (NPP) and Naga People's Front (NPF)—account for six and five MLAs respectively.
Additionally, three Independent MLAs are also backing the BJP-led NDA.
