Labeling the Act as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘discriminatory’, the demonstrators urged the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre to retract it.
Numerous women, youth, and students joined the Waqf Bachao March organized by the Congress.
The march commenced at Nizam College Grounds and concluded at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund, located in the city center.
The participants, many of whom waved the national flag, shouted slogans against the NDA government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of targeting Muslims through a conspiracy to seize Waqf properties.
Demonstrators carried banners and placards with messages such as ‘Save Waqf, Wave Nation’, ‘We reject Waqf Act’, ‘Our Waqf our right’, and ‘Repeal Waqf Act’.
Congress MP Imran Masood, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Telangana government advisor and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, along with Muslim leaders from Congress, addressed the gathering.
People from various parts of the city and surrounding districts, transcending party lines, participated in what was the largest protest yet in Hyderabad.
The crowd chanted slogans like ‘We want justice’, ‘Inquilab Zindabad’, ‘Hindustan Zindabad’, and ‘Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi’.
Many protestors displayed black flags and donned black T-shirts emblazoned with ‘We reject Waqf Act’.
The procession passed through Basheerbagh Junction and Liberty Junction before reaching the Ambedkar Statue. The police made extensive security arrangements, ensuring that the event was peaceful.
Earlier, Imran Masood spoke at a meeting organized by the All India Milli Council Telangana and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
AIMPLB president Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani presided over the gathering.
