Hyderabad, Dec 31 (NationPress) As the clock ticks down to the New Year, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar has issued a stern warning to those indulging in alcoholic beverages, declaring a zero tolerance policy for drunk driving.
He revealed that comprehensive checks for drunken driving will be carried out across 120 areas of the city during the night of December 31 to January 1. This initiative will extend into the first week of January.
The Commissioner emphasized that vehicles driven by individuals under the influence will be confiscated. "We will enforce substantial fines, alongside vehicle seizures, potential imprisonment, and the revocation of driving licenses," he conveyed via a post on 'X' on Wednesday.
He added, "Strict measures will be implemented against reckless driving, triple riding, and anyone causing disturbances in public spaces. If you've had drinks, please use cabs or designated drivers instead of getting behind the wheel."
Commissioner Sajjanar, recognized for his tough stance against intoxicated drivers, has even characterized them as terrorists. He has been sharing humorous yet poignant messages on social media addressing the issue of drunk driving.
In one notable post, he remarked, "Dear Sirs and Madams, Indian law does not recognize Sections 123 and 567. So if you think you're schooling our officers on these nonexistent rules while staggering behind the wheel at 2 AM… congratulations! Your future lies in stand-up comedy, fiction writing, or viral family embarrassment."
He elaborated, "Here’s the outcome of mixing alcohol with fictitious laws: Instant Internet Fame – Your family and friends' WhatsApp groups and Instagram will become a gallery of your brilliance: watch them debate with police like they’re in a courtroom drama!"
He continued, "Your Car Goes to Boot Camp – Your cherished vehicle will enjoy a disciplined stay at a detention center, likely taking notes on how not to emulate your behavior. Lawyer Reality Check – Your actual lawyer reads the genuine legal sections aloud while everyone observes as your 'expertise' crumbles faster than your balance behind the wheel. Ego Obliteration – That inflated ego? Shattered. No appeals. No mercy," he wrote.
"Life Lesson: Fiction books are entertaining. Drinks can be enjoyable (when done responsibly). Driving under the influence and acting like a legal expert at midnight? Definitely not enjoyable," he concluded.
In related news, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) announced a free transport service for those unable to safely return home after drinking.
TGPWU, in partnership with Bijliride, disclosed that this complimentary ride service will be available from 11 PM on December 31 to 1 AM on January 1, covering the areas under Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates.
