2,642 Drivers Detected for DUI in Hyderabad During New Year's Festivities

Hyderabad, Jan 1 (NationPress) A staggering 2,642 drivers were detected for driving under the influence of alcohol in Hyderabad amid the New Year festivities.
The drivers were apprehended during a special operation targeting drunk driving conducted on the night of December 31 leading into January 1 across the jurisdictions of three police commissionerates - Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda.
In total, 1,184 drunk driving cases were recorded in the Hyderabad Commissionerate, while 839 individuals were caught in the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits. The Rachakonda area reported 619 cases.
During the crackdown on December 31, 839 individuals were booked in Cyberabad.
As per the Cyberabad Traffic Police, the New Year celebrations were largely incident-free and accident-free.
To mitigate road accidents and other potential issues, 49 teams from the Cyberabad Police performed drunk driving tests throughout Cyberabad on the night of December 31 into January 1.
The individuals apprehended included 685 two-wheeler riders and 18 three-wheeler drivers. Additionally, 131 four-wheelers and 5 heavy vehicles were also involved.
All offenders faced legal repercussions. Their driving licenses will be confiscated and forwarded to the relevant Road Transport Authorities for suspension in accordance with section 19 of the MV Act, 1988.
Around 366 individuals registered alcohol levels exceeding 100 mg/100 ml of blood, while 24 surpassed 300 mg/100 ml and 4 exceeded 500 mg/100 ml, according to police records.
The majority of incidents were reported in areas such as RC Puram, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Narsingi, Alwal, Jeedimetla, and Medchal.
Thanks to the extensive preparations and enforcement by the Cyberabad Traffic Police, there were no significant road accidents reported throughout Cyberabad. The Cyberabad Police express appreciation to the public for their collaboration in maintaining road safety.
In light of the New Year, the special focus on drunk driving will be sustained throughout the year within Cyberabad limits, adhering to a “Zero Tolerance” policy towards such offenses, according to police statements.
In the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits, a breath analyzer reading from a biker apprehended during the operation surprised the police officials. The individual recorded an astonishing 550 mg/100ml, significantly exceeding the legal limit.
Some individuals caught during the operation at various locations engaged in heated discussions with police, with some questioning the enforcement actions taken on New Year’s Eve.
