Hyderabad and Cyberabad Authorities Apprehend 787 for Drunk Driving

Hyderabad, March 1 (NationPress) A total of 787 individuals were apprehended for operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol during a special enforcement operation conducted over the weekend within the jurisdictions of the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates, according to police reports on Sunday.
Of these, 506 drivers were detained in Hyderabad, while the Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 281 offenders.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police executed a two-day initiative on February 27 and 28 aimed at combating drunk driving to promote road safety. During this operation, 506 drivers were found to be driving under the influence.
Among those apprehended, 401 were two-wheeler riders, 47 were three-wheeler drivers, and 57 were drivers of four-wheelers and other types of vehicles.
Offenders were classified according to their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. Notably, 104 offenders exhibited BAC levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 50 mg/100 ml.
The police documented 214 cases for BAC levels between 51 and 100, 105 cases for BAC levels of 101-150, and 43 cases for BAC levels ranging from 151-200.
Furthermore, 24 offenders had BAC levels from 201 to 250, six were recorded with BAC levels of 251-300, and 10 cases were filed for BAC levels exceeding 300.
The Joint Commissioner of Police emphasized a zero tolerance policy towards drunk driving violations and affirmed that this special operation would persist. He urged the public to support the traffic police.
In a parallel operation, the Cyberabad Traffic Police enacted a special enforcement drive against drunk driving over the weekend, resulting in the capture of 281 offenders.
Among these, 224 offenders were riding two-wheelers, eight were three-wheeler drivers, 42 were four-wheeler drivers, and seven were operating heavy vehicles.
The police noted that 246 offenders had BAC levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 19 had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 16 offenders registered BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
During the past week (February 23-28), 218 drunk driving cases were addressed in courts. Thirteen individuals were incarcerated and fined, five were assigned to pay fines and perform community service, while fines were imposed on the remaining 200 individuals.
The Cyberabad Police reiterated the seriousness of driving under the influence of alcohol. Any individual caught driving while intoxicated and causing a fatal accident will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder), which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment along with fines.
