New Delhi, Feb 9 (NationPress) Following the recent suicide of a 25-year-old man accused of links to militancy in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, PDP leader Iltaja Mufti visited his home on Sunday to offer her condolences and provide support to the mourning family.

While her visit aimed to provide comfort, it has raised questions as Iltaja Mufti claimed just a day earlier that she was under house arrest along with her mother Mehbooba Mufti.

The PDP leader now faces scrutiny regarding her assertions about being under house arrest and accusations of exploiting the family's grief for political gain.

On February 8, Iltaja Mufti shared images of her house's locked gates on X, stating, "Both my mother and I have been put under house arrest. Our gates have been secured because she was scheduled to visit Sopore, where Waseem Mir was killed by the army. I wanted to meet Makhan Din's family today in Kathua, but I'm being prevented from leaving. The situation in Kashmir remains unchanged post-elections, and now even offering condolences to victim families is being criminalized."

Today, her mother and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti posted a video of Iltaja comforting the family of the young man from Kathua, who they alleged took his life due to police torture.

Iltaja Mufti criticized the Omar Abdullah administration for failing to take responsibility for the young man's death and neglecting the suffering of his family.

Authorities reported that Makhan Din died by ingesting insecticide at home on Tuesday evening. In light of allegations of police torture, investigations have been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of the young Gujjar.

Family members assert that Din and his 65-year-old father were taken into custody by police from their residence in Perody village, near Billawar, and subjected to torture.

However, police officials have dismissed these torture allegations.
