Srinagar, Aug 11 (NationPress) The J&K Police announced on Monday that comprehensive security and logistical plans are finalized for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations in the Kashmir Valley.
During a press interaction at the Independence Day rehearsal parade, IGP, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, emphasized that all essential measures for security and logistics are set for the upcoming festivities throughout the Valley.
The rehearsal for the August 15 parade occurred in Srinagar on Monday.
On August 15, a multi-layered security system will be operational, concentrating on sensitive areas to guarantee that the celebrations proceed smoothly. The IGP stated, “All initiatives are being taken to ensure a seamless and incident-free observance of August 15 in Srinagar and other districts of the Valley.”
Srinagar city and district headquarters have been under heightened vigilance from security forces during Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations since the onset of armed conflict in J&K in the early 1990s.
In the past, terrorists and their affiliates would advocate for boycotting official events tied to these national celebrations, often calling for a complete shutdown and the observance of a ‘Black Day’ on such occasions.
Following the abrogation of Article 370, which placed J&K under direct central oversight, incidents of stone pelting, shutdowns called by separatists, and boycotting of national events have diminished significantly.
Over the past five years, participation by local citizens and school children has become a vital aspect of the Independence Day festivities in Kashmir.
On January 26 and August 15, locals have been able to move freely, as the people of the Valley have increasingly aligned themselves with the rest of the nation in celebrating these important events.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to hoist the national flag and review the parade at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar on August 15, while various ministers and development committee chairpersons will oversee Independence Day events across several districts of J&K.
