New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) In a united front, 16 opposition parties part of the INDIA Bloc have addressed a collective letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the calling of a special Parliament session to discuss the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and other significant national security matters.
While the opposition expresses support for the government's actions against terrorism, it emphasizes the necessity of open and strategic discussions within Parliament's framework.
“Our request remains unchanged -- a special session of Parliament should be convened, not only to acknowledge our armed forces for their courage and sacrifice but also to enable the government to present its comprehensive view on the situation,” stated the Congress following a meeting of INDIA Bloc leaders.
In a media briefing, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda highlighted the parties' apprehensions: “We anticipate the government to address topics such as Operation Sindoor, the recent ceasefire announcement by the US, diplomatic initiatives to isolate Pakistan internationally, and a definitive strategy to eradicate terrorism. Parliament serves as the voice of 1.4 billion citizens -- crucial issues like these must be discussed here.”
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien underscored the government's constitutional duty to keep Parliament informed. “The government is accountable to Parliament, and Parliament is accountable to the populace. This is why 16 parties have endorsed this letter, calling for a special session,” he remarked.
The signatory parties include Congress, SP, AITC, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, J&K NC, CPI(M), IUML, CPI, RSP, JMM, VCK, Kerala Congress, MDMK, CPI (ML).
Furthermore, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), while not a signatory to the collective letter, has sent a separate request to the Prime Minister echoing the same demand.
The INDIA Bloc leaders convened in New Delhi’s Constitution Club to address these urgent matters.
Previously, 200 MPs from the Lok Sabha signed a letter to PM Modi requesting a special Parliament session to discuss the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, which transpired in its aftermath.
