New Delhi, July 19 (NationPress) The Opposition's INDIA Bloc is set to conduct a significant virtual meeting on Saturday aimed at devising a cohesive strategy prior to the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Leading the coordination efforts, the Congress party has opted to transition the meeting from an in-person event at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in New Delhi to a virtual setting. This adjustment is intended to facilitate wider participation from Opposition leaders nationwide.
Commencing at 7 P.M., the meeting will unite senior figures from important Opposition parties, such as Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party (SP), Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), and various Left parties.
Anticipated to join the session is Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, although the participation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) remains uncertain.
K.C. Venugopal, Congress MP and General Secretary (Organisation), confirmed the details of the meeting, indicating that the senior leadership of the INDIA Bloc will discuss critical issues to be addressed during the upcoming parliamentary session.
Moreover, Syed Naseer Hussain, Congress MP, mentioned that this gathering will act as a strategic platform for leaders to synchronize their approach against the government's agenda and to raise concerns about democracy, governance, and electoral integrity.
A pivotal issue anticipated to dominate discussions is the voter list revision in Bihar. The Opposition has vocally opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls carried out by the Election Commission in light of the state's forthcoming Assembly elections.
Recently, Jairam Ramesh, Congress MP, reignited the conversation by accusing the Central government of trying to manipulate the electoral process.
Commenting on the SIR initiative in Bihar, Ramesh expressed on X, “The Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls is a calculated and sinister effort to rig the elections through widespread disenfranchisement. A PM who executed 'notebandi' has orchestrated this 'votebandi'.”
As the Monsoon Session approaches, the meeting aims to establish a foundation for the Opposition's performance in Parliament.
