New Delhi, Nov 25 (NationPress) On Tuesday, India expressed strong disapproval regarding the unjust detention of an Indian citizen hailing from Arunachal Pradesh by Chinese authorities at Shanghai International Airport. This incident was described as a breach of international norms and bilateral agreements.

A woman from Arunachal Pradesh was reportedly held for almost 18 hours at Shanghai Pudong Airport after officials did not acknowledge her Indian passport.

In response to media inquiries, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that India has raised the issue with China vigorously.

“Chinese officials have not provided any valid reason for their actions, which are against established international air travel agreements and their own visa-free transit policy,” he remarked.

Jaiswal reaffirmed India's steadfast stance that Arunachal Pradesh is a vital and inseparable part of the nation.

"This is a truth that cannot be disputed. China's denial or misrepresentation does not change this fact," he added.

This incident has further complicated diplomatic relations, with India insisting on accountability and compliance with global norms from Beijing.

The woman, originally from Rupa in the West Kameng district, has resided in the UK for several years. She was en route from London to Japan for a holiday on November 21 when her brief layover transformed into a distressing ordeal.

Thongdok, who has received her education in the USA, has been living in London for an extended period. Local media reports mention her father, L.D. Thongdok, a senior engineer in the PWD and a notable technocrat, who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.
