New Delhi, July 18 (NationPress) India has the capacity to emerge as a premier global wedding destination, and the flourishing entertainment and wedding sector can serve as a significant means to empower the nation’s youth, stated Ranjit Mehta, CEO of PHDCCI, on Friday.
In a conversation with IANS, Mehta underscored that for the youth of India, entertainment has transitioned from a luxury to a necessity.
He pointed out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aspiration to establish the Indian wedding industry as a fundamental aspect of the country’s rich cultural legacy.
“As PM Modi aptly noted, India is poised to become the leading wedding destination worldwide. With almost 65 percent of our population being youthful, this sector can serve as a robust platform for empowerment,” Mehta conveyed to IANS.
“This arena allows young Indians to not only exhibit their talents but also to cultivate meaningful and profitable careers,” Mehta added.
He further observed the remarkable expansion of the live entertainment industry in India, which has surged from a ₹1,000 crore sector to over ₹12,000 crore today.
India, blessed with varied seasons and cultural diversity, presents vast opportunities for the growth of destination weddings.
To capitalize on this potential, PHDCCI has initiated its inaugural summit dedicated to the emerging entertainment sector - 'Fun-Tastic 2025'. This summit, held in the national capital, celebrated the vibrant realm of live entertainment, concerts, and events in India.
The entertainment industry in India is a multi-billion-dollar domain, with live entertainment - including concerts, weddings, corporate events, and theater - at its core.
This segment is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18 percent, anticipated to reach ₹14,300 crore by 2026.
Rajeev Jain, Chair of PHDCCI’s Entertainment Committee, shared with IANS, “With Fun-Tastic 2025, PHDCCI is also commemorating its 120th anniversary. The wedding industry has now escalated to ₹7.5 lakh crore, while the concert sector is valued at ₹13,000 crore.”
“Every prominent global artist today aspires to collaborate with India. Given the swift progression of this sector, we believe that in the coming decade, wedding tourism will evolve into a major industry, and India may even establish a dedicated Wedding Ministry to oversee weddings, concerts, and large-scale events,” Jain concluded.
