Jerusalem, Oct 22 (NationPress) Israel has received the remains of two unidentified Israeli hostages who were held captive by Hamas in Gaza for a period of two years, as reported by the Prime Minister's Office.

The coffins were transferred by Hamas to the Red Cross in Gaza on Tuesday. The Red Cross then relayed them to the Israeli military and Shin Bet security personnel within the enclave. "From there, they will be transported to Israel," stated the office, noting that the bodies will subsequently be taken to the National Center for Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv.

"We are committed to our mission of retrieving our hostages and will persist until every last one is back home," they added.

Earlier on the same day, the National Center of Forensic Medicine finalized the identification of another deceased hostage whose body was returned by Hamas on Monday night. The Israeli military identified him as Tal Haimi, the commander of the rapid response team at Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, a location near Gaza that suffered an attack during the Hamas-led offensive on October 7, 2023, according to Xinhua news agency.

This incident marks the latest exchange of captives and remains under a ceasefire that commenced on October 10. During this ceasefire, Hamas released all 20 living Israeli hostages, while Israel freed around 2,000 Palestinian detainees.

Israel estimates that the remains of 28 hostages are still in Gaza, with some having been killed prior to their abduction and others who perished in captivity. So far, Hamas has returned 15 bodies.
