Ahmedabad, Feb 7 (NationPress) The two-day Southern Command Investiture Ceremony wrapped up in Gujarat's Ahmedabad on Saturday, celebrating acts of gallantry, distinguished service, and professional excellence across the Indian Armed Forces and its associated establishments.

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, presented awards to 34 individuals for their acts of valour, courage, and distinguished service to the nation.

Additionally, 33 units were awarded the “GOC-in-C, Southern Command Unit Citation” for their exceptional operational performance, professional achievement, and consistent execution of their assigned roles.

The ceremony commenced with a formal Guard of Honour for the Army Commander, in line with the Indian Army's long-standing traditions.

During his address, Lieutenant General Seth emphasized that the investiture recognized extraordinary courage, professionalism, and selfless service, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and the lasting legacy of veterans.

He highlighted the high operational readiness maintained by Southern Command and the jointmanship and multi-domain capabilities demonstrated during recent operations and exercises.

He reiterated the Southern Command's commitment to ongoing operational preparedness, technological advancement, and inter-agency coordination to enhance integrated capabilities in support of national security.

As a part of the event, Veteran Achievers Awards were given to former service personnel for their significant contributions post-retirement across various fields.

A display of weapons and equipment was also organized, showcasing systems and platforms in line with the Army's modernization efforts and its declared Decade of Transformation.

Jayesh Patel, Deputy Executive Engineer of the Ahmedabad Cantonment Board, received the Achieving Excellence Award for his long-standing dedication.

Having served for 37 years with the Cantonment Board, Patel was recognized for his professional conduct, unwavering commitment to duty, and contributions over nearly four decades.

A Certificate of Commendation was awarded to Wing Commander Dharmendra Sharma (Retd.), a veteran of the Indian Air Force.

Commissioned in 1991, Wing Commander Sharma served for 25 years before his voluntary retirement in 2016, during which he earned commendations from senior Air Force leadership.

Officials praised his ongoing contributions to the nation after retirement, highlighting his work as a model of devotion to duty and responsible citizenship.

After retirement, Wing Commander Sharma has engaged in environmental conservation and social initiatives through the ARC Foundation, where he serves as Founder and Managing Trustee.

His initiatives encompass large-scale tree plantation drives, waste management and composting projects, educational support for underprivileged students, and livelihood programs for rural women in Gujarat.

The ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries, defence officials, invited guests, Veer Naris, and Veer Matas, and concluded in a solemn atmosphere that reflected the values of courage, discipline, and selfless service.
