New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the Indian Navy on Thursday for its crucial role in protecting the nation's maritime interests and its dedication to Atmanirbharta, emphasizing its significance in realizing the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'.
Navy Day is celebrated every year on December 4 to honor the achievements of the Indian Navy and its contributions to national security. This date is significant as it commemorates the Navy's success during the 1971 conflict when, under Operation Trident, Indian forces sank four Pakistani ships, including the PNS Khaibar, delivering a critical blow to the Pakistani Navy.
On X, the Defence Minister stated, "As we celebrate Navy Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all personnel and families of the Indian Navy. As the leading naval power in the Indian Ocean, the Navy consistently protects India's maritime interests with courage, vigilance, and a commitment to Aatmanirbharta, thereby anchoring India's journey towards 'Viksit Bharat'."
Wishing the naval forces success in their endeavors, he added, "The exemplary professionalism and dedication displayed by our Navy and its personnel over the past year instill great confidence that the Indian Navy is prepared to defend and promote our national maritime interests."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his best wishes to the personnel of the Indian Navy on this occasion.
"Warm greetings to the brave warriors of the Indian Navy on Navy Day 2025. The Indian Navy stands as a testament to our pride, safeguarding the nation from threats with unmatched bravery and supporting our growth through maritime routes. The heroic tales of patriotism they have forged with their ultimate sacrifices will inspire future generations of warriors," HM Shah posted on X.
"I pay tribute to the Navy warriors who sacrificed their lives for our nation," he added.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminisced about this year's Diwali, which he celebrated with naval personnel aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy showcased its growing maritime capabilities in an operational display off the coast of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Wednesday.
The event highlighted the force's multi-domain combat readiness, featuring the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and the frontline frigate Udaygiri.
President Droupadi Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, observed the display from Shangumugham Beach as part of the Navy Day festivities.
A total of 19 major warships, including INS Vikrant, a submarine, four fast intervention vessels, and 32 aircraft such as fighter jets, surveillance planes, and helicopters participated in the demonstration, highlighting the Navy's expanding operational capability and readiness.
