President Droupadi Murmu Celebrates Navy Day in Puri

Bhubaneswar, Dec 4 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday expressed optimism that the Indian Navy will persist in safeguarding maritime security, crucial for our journey towards a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

While attending the Navy Day festivities in the coastal town of Puri, President Murmu remarked: "The seamless integration of advanced technology, tactical expertise, and sheer bravery showcased today illustrates the transformation of our Navy into a combat-ready, future-prepared, and credible force."

She added that with 63 ships currently under construction in India, the Navy's unwavering commitment to becoming an Atmanirbhar force by 2047 serves as an inspiration for all Indians to engage in innovation in 'Mission Mode'.

President Murmu highlighted that it is a source of pride for every Indian that India stands as one of only six nations globally capable of designing, constructing, and operating both a Ballistic Missile Nuclear Submarine and an Aircraft Carrier.

She commended the Indian Navy for being the first military service to induct women Agniveers, ensuring that ‘All Ranks and All Roles’, including combat positions, are accessible to women. Furthermore, the journey of two women Navy officers, Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa, as they circumnavigate the globe in INSV Tarini as part of the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama II’, exemplifies this new paradigm.

President Murmu commemorated the remarkable victory of India in the 1971 war and the ultimate sacrifices made by naval personnel in the service of the nation.

"I would also like to honor the sacrifice and bravery of Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, a courageous naval officer who displayed extraordinary valor and leadership during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. As the Commanding Officer of INS Khukri, he played a vital role in several significant operations and ultimately laid down his life. Recently, I had the privilege to pay my respects to him during my visit to Diu," President Murmu stated.

The President also praised the Indian Navy for a well-coordinated and expertly executed Operational Demonstration, which showcased to the public how the Navy operates at sea.

She expressed her gratitude to the Indian Navy for selecting Puri as the venue for this operational demonstration.

During the event, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, expressed his appreciation to the state government and local administration for their proactive support in planning and executing the event.

Numerous dignitaries, including Odisha Governor Raghubar Das and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, were present to witness the impressive display of the Indian Navy's capabilities during the Navy Day celebrations.

It is important to note that Navy Day is celebrated to honor Operation Trident, which involved the attack on the Karachi harbor during the India-Pakistan War on December 4, 1971.
