New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) The Indian Railways has made a significant move toward improving efficiency in rolling stock maintenance and operational safety by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday. This agreement focuses on the procurement and installation of cutting-edge Automatic Wheel Profile Measurement Systems.
The MoU, formalised at Rail Bhawan, will facilitate the automatic, non-contact measurement of train wheel profiles, thereby increasing both safety and efficiency within the Indian Railways.
The Automatic Wheel Profile Measurement Systems (WPMS) are sophisticated tools that provide automatic, non-contact measurements of train wheel profiles, ensuring real-time evaluation of wheel geometry and wear. Utilizing laser scanners and high-speed cameras, this system delivers precise and quick measurements without requiring manual effort. In the event of any discrepancies, automated alerts will activate, prompting timely corrective actions and bolstering safety and operational efficiency.
As part of this partnership, the DMRC will oversee the procurement, supply, installation, and commissioning of four AWPMS units for the Indian Railways.
This collaboration signifies a crucial step in modernising railway maintenance processes. By adopting advanced technology, the Indian Railways is improving its rolling stock management, shortening maintenance times, and enhancing overall service efficiency.
Additionally, this partnership fosters technology exchange and skill enhancement between the Indian Railways and the DMRC, underscoring their dedication to innovation, safety, and operational excellence.
The signing ceremony of the MoU was attended by high-ranking officials, including Railway Board Member, Traction & Rolling Stock, B.M. Agrawal, and Additional Members S.K. Pankaj (Production Units) and Ashish Sharma (Mechanical Engineering), along with the DMRC's Director of Business Development, Parmit Garg.
Previously, the Indian Railways, DMRC, and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have collaborated to promote the 'One India One Ticket' initiative, which improves the travel experience for mainline railway and metro passengers in the Delhi/NCR region.
Tickets for the DMRC QR code-based system can now be purchased through the IRCTC website and mobile app. Metro tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance and are valid for four days.
This initiative aims to create a seamless travel experience for mainline railway and metro passengers in the Delhi NCR area, thus supporting the Centre's 'One India One Ticket' initiative.
