A ₹110 crore Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Knowledge Centre is set to come up in the heart of Hyderabad, designed to serve as a comprehensive educational and career support hub for thousands of students and unemployed youth across Telangana. The facility will offer academic resources, digital libraries, and technology-enabled learning, with lessons streamed online to remote areas across the state.

Site Visit and Key Details

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday, 8 June conducted field inspections of two proposed construction sites — the Ambedkar Knowledge Centre near Lower Tank Bund and a new SC Hostel at Nimboli Adda in Kachiguda, the latter estimated at ₹25 crore. Financial and administrative approvals for both projects have already been sanctioned, he confirmed.

The Knowledge Centre will be built at the current site of the Ambedkar Bhavan, with ₹5 crore already released to demolish the existing structure. The new building will comprise a cellar, a ground floor, and 10 additional floors, housing study circles, digital libraries, and conference halls.

What the Centre Will Offer

Beyond physical infrastructure, the centre is envisioned as a continuously active educational platform. Top lecturers based at the Hyderabad centre will deliver lessons that are simultaneously accessible online to students at Ambedkar Knowledge Centres planned for every Assembly constituency across the state. This interconnected digital network is intended to eliminate the need for students from poor, backward, marginalised, and middle-class families to relocate to Hyderabad for competitive exam coaching.

Seminars featuring global intellectuals are also planned, with a technological ecosystem in place to stream events digitally to remote areas. The Deputy Chief Minister described the centre as 'not just a building, but a continuous educational platform to uplift the knowledge of millions.'

Focus on Marginalised Communities

Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka highlighted that children of daily wage labourers, farming families, and small traders face significant financial burdens when they travel to Hyderabad for coaching. The government's stated intent is to bring quality coaching to students' doorsteps through the constituency-level network. He said the government's 'firm resolve' is to permanently eliminate the coaching struggles faced by unemployed youth in the state.

The Nimboli Adda Hostel in Kachiguda, which has historically sheltered students from underprivileged backgrounds since the undivided state era, will be fully modernised and renamed the Babu Jagjivan Ram Knowledge Centre. Vikramarka called the three-storey hostel a 'long-cherished dream' of Dalit and underprivileged communities.

Political and Administrative Context

Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar and other public representatives accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister during the site inspections. Vikramarka stated that after the current government's formation, it had declared that a Dr B.R. Ambedkar Knowledge Centre would be established in every Assembly constituency — making the Hyderabad flagship the centrepiece of a statewide network. He added that the state government cleared finances immediately after proposals were submitted, signalling administrative urgency.

With construction approvals in place and demolition funds already released, the Hyderabad centre marks the first concrete step in what the Telangana government is positioning as a flagship welfare initiative for educational equity.
