Jammu, February 19 (NationPress) Authorities apprehended two individuals after recovering ₹3.36 crore from their vehicle in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported on Wednesday.
The recovery occurred on Tuesday. Officials stated that the Kashmir-bound vehicle was traveling from Delhi and was intercepted at Lakhanpur, the entry point into Jammu and Kashmir. A total of ₹3.36 crore was found in the vehicle, and both occupants, who are residents of Srinagar, were arrested and subsequently handed over to the income tax department for further inquiry.
Shobhit Saxena, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kathua, mentioned that the cash was concealed in a specially constructed cavity beneath the rear seats of the vehicle.
“Currently, no evidence of terror financing has surfaced during the preliminary investigation,” the SSP noted.
Security forces and the J&K Police have initiated robust operations against terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. Additionally, operations targeting drug smugglers, peddlers, and those involved in Hawala networks are ongoing.
It is believed that a significant portion of the funds generated from these illegal activities supports terrorism in the union territory. In this context, Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently chaired two security review meetings concerning the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Amit Shah reportedly instructed security forces to maintain zero infiltration and enforce zero tolerance towards terrorism.
These high-level meetings were followed by two security review sessions led by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. One of these sessions took place in Srinagar, while the other was held in Jammu.
The Lt Governor directed police and security forces to vigorously dismantle the ecosystem of terrorism by targeting terrorists, their OGWs, and sympathizers.
Terrorist activities have been escalating in the union territory. Two soldiers lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district. Officials later confirmed that the IED was planted by terrorists. On Tuesday, two IEDs were discovered and subsequently defused by bomb disposal squads in the Shopian and Tral areas of the Valley.
