Roseau, Nov 4 (NationPress) In a significant move, India and Dominica have formalized the implementation of five Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) through the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These initiatives are designed to enhance community development in the Caribbean nation, with the Government of India committing USD 250,000 in financial support as part of its development partnership program.
The agreement was signed by Pradeep Rajpurohit, the High Commissioner of India to Dominica, and Vince Henderson, Dominica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, in the capital city of Roseau.
The projects encompass various enhancements, including the rehabilitation of 235 metres of a farm access and feeder road in Macaton, Grand Bay; the restoration of St. Elmo’s Road in St. Elmo’s Estate, Upper Giraudel; and improvements to parts of a farm access road in Carholme. Furthermore, these initiatives will also involve refurbishing the Grand Bay Basketball Court and constructing a footpath crossing at Fond St. Jean.
“India is unwavering in its commitment to providing developmental assistance to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica and extends heartfelt wishes on the 47th anniversary of the nation’s independence,” stated the High Commission of India in Trinidad and Tobago, which is also accredited to Dominica.
India has maintained a strong bilateral relationship with Dominica since diplomatic ties were established in 1981.
Numerous developmental projects have been launched under this cooperation, including the India-United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) initiative: “Resilient Rehabilitation of Salisbury Educational Facility in Dominica Post-Hurricane Maria,” which received a funding of $1 million in 2018 for the restoration of two severely damaged buildings, completed in March 2020.
A $1 million project aimed at “Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience in the Kalinago Community” commenced in February 2021 and was completed by January 2024. Another $1 million initiative, the second phase of the Community Resilience Project in the Kalinago Territory, was launched on December 19, 2024, and is currently active.
