New Delhi, Nov 12 (NationPress) India is on course to dominate 10 percent of the global green hydrogen demand by 2030, as stated by Union Minister Shripad Y. Naik on Wednesday.

While speaking at the third International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) here, the minister highlighted that India's energy transition is one of the most ambitious and rapid globally, driven by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his commitments under 'Panchamrit' at COP-26.

He mentioned that the nation is steadily progressing toward its goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and aims for net-zero emissions by 2070.

Additionally, he noted that India's installed non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity has approached nearly 260 GW, primarily from solar and wind sources.

“This solid renewable foundation has now positioned India for the next critical phase — the Green Hydrogen Revolution — transforming renewable energy into clean molecules capable of decarbonizing industries, providing fuel for transportation, and facilitating global trade,” he remarked.

Naik pointed out that India's green hydrogen market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 20-40 percent over the next decade. With its abundance of renewable energy, strategic location, and conducive policy environment, India is set to emerge as a leading producer and exporter of green hydrogen and its derivatives, such as green ammonia and methanol.

The union minister underscored that India is not just participating but is at the forefront of the global hydrogen transition through robust policy frameworks, standardization efforts, and international partnerships.

Naik encouraged industry players and investors to expedite project implementation, enhance electrolyzer manufacturing, and boost innovation pathways. He also urged state governments to establish hydrogen hubs and industrial clusters to bolster local economies.

Describing the Green Hydrogen transition as an economic, environmental, and societal overhaul, Shri Naik stated it would drive sustainable prosperity and solidify India's role as a vital component of the global hydrogen value chain.

Highlighting the swift advancements of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) launched in January 2023, the union minister noted that the Mission has moved from planning to active implementation, with incentive schemes totaling Rs 17,000 crore promoting green hydrogen production and electrolyzer manufacturing.

Contracts have been awarded for 3,000 MW annually in domestic electrolyzer manufacturing and 8.62 lakh metric tonnes annually in green hydrogen production.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has achieved globally competitive pricing, ranking among the lowest worldwide, for supplying 7.24 lakh MTPA of green ammonia to fertilizer units. Furthermore, projects have been approved for supplying 20,000 MTPA of green hydrogen to IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL refineries.

The minister further stated that 'ICGH 2025' exemplifies India’s commitment to advancing green hydrogen technology, fostering innovation, and hastening our journey toward a clean and sustainable energy future.
