New Delhi, Feb 15 (NationPress) The guidelines for AI governance in India are rooted in seven essential Sutras, aiming to guarantee that AI acts as a facilitator for inclusive growth, economic development, and global competitiveness. These measures are designed to address risks to individuals and society with proportionate and evidence-based actions, as noted in an official statement released on Sunday.

By adopting this systematic and visionary framework, India intends to fulfill its goal of “AI for All,” ensuring that the transformative capabilities of artificial intelligence contribute significantly to the national ambition of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The objective is to make sure that its benefits reach every citizen in a safe, inclusive, and sustainable manner.

The seven guiding sutras include: Trust is the Foundation, People First, Innovation over Restraint, Fairness & Equity, Accountability, Understandable by Design, and Safety, Resilience & Sustainability.

Through the “AI for All” initiative, India seeks to blend national capabilities with open innovation, utilizing public digital infrastructure, developing local models, and ensuring affordable computing to enhance productivity and foster inclusive growth. This strategy aligns AI development with the larger vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning AI as a driver of economic transformation, social empowerment, and strategic autonomy.

India's accomplishments showcase this proactive philosophy. Under the IndiaAI Mission, more than 38,000 GPUs have been integrated into a subsidized national computing facility. The AIKosh platform now features over 9,500 datasets and 273 sectoral models, which bolster indigenous model development. The National Supercomputing Mission has launched over 40 petaflop systems, including AIRAWAT and PARAM Siddhi-AI. In terms of capacity building, the IndiaAI and FutureSkills initiatives are supporting 500 PhDs, 5,000 postgraduates, and 8,000 undergraduates, while 570 AI Data Labs and 27 IndiaAI labs across various states are promoting grassroots innovation.

With nearly 90 percent of startups incorporating AI in some capacity, India is embedding AI into its innovation ecosystem effectively.

The India AI Governance Guidelines, set to be announced at the AI Impact Summit 2026, come at a pivotal moment for consolidating these advancements. The framework employs a principle-based, techno-legal approach. By creating new institutions like the AI Governance Group, the Technology & Policy Expert Committee, and the AI Safety Institute, India aims to establish a comprehensive governmental model that balances innovation with necessary safeguards.

The key principles of the AI Governance framework have been meticulously crafted to ensure they are applicable across sectors and maintain technological neutrality, thereby remaining relevant across various use cases and stages of technological advancement. Collectively, these principles provide a flexible and future-ready foundation for responsible AI development and deployment.
