Imphal, Aug 8 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, on Friday reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a transformed Northeast and emphasized that a revitalized Manipur could materialize if the populace embraces innovative ideas across various sectors.
The Union Minister, while concentrating on the tourism sector during a series of discussions in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, acknowledged the substantial potential within tourism and underscored the necessity for integrated development to foster economic advancement.
In the health sector, he pointed out crucial areas requiring attention, such as infant mortality, sickle cell anaemia, and malaria, urging the relevant departments to amplify their efforts in these fields.
On education, Gopi stressed the need for specialized training programs aimed at enhancing the capacity of teachers to improve the quality of government schools and increase student enrollment.
In agriculture, the Central minister inquired about the fertilizer distribution system and farmer feedback, advocating for a rise in millet production in alignment with the Prime Minister’s nutrition-centric initiatives.
The Minister also reviewed the Open Defecation Free (ODF) initiative spearheaded by the PHE Department, reiterating the significance of prioritizing health, food, and education—elements he described as the foundation of any advancing society.
He assured that he would provide all necessary support for the district's development.
Gopi presided over a meeting to evaluate the overall functioning of various line departments and assess the execution of crucial government schemes.
Bishnupur district Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam delivered an extensive presentation on the district’s tourism potential, showcasing major attractions such as Khoriphaba Temple, Loukoi Pat, Red Hill, India Peace Memorial, Maibam Lokpa Ching, Nambol, Vishnu Temple, Shri Gopinath Temple, INA War Museum, INA Memorial Complex, Loktak Lake, and the Sangai Ethnic Park.
In response to the presentation, Gopi highlighted the importance of further developing Loktak Lake, the pride of the state, into a world-class destination, asserting that such initiatives could substantially enhance revenue generation.
The Minister provided constructive feedback to each department, concentrating on innovation strategies that align with the Prime Minister’s vision for the Northeast region.
Later, the Union Minister paid floral tributes to the fallen soldiers of the Indo-Japanese forces at the Indian Peace Memorial Maibam Lokpa Ching, and also visited the Imphal Peace Museum.
