In his address at the inaugural session of the Manipur Global Buyers and Sellers Summit, hosted at the City Convention Centre in Imphal, the Governor noted that the landscape—from the lush hills to the fertile valleys—provides an array of unique products.
These products include black rice (Chak-Hao), organic goods, and a variety of handloom and handicrafts, each reflecting the creativity of the local population.
Bhalla also pointed out the state’s rich human resources, which are skilled, adaptable, and entrepreneurial. He remarked on the growing capabilities within Manipur’s IT and service sectors, which are making significant contributions towards job creation and innovative solutions.
The Governor acknowledged that despite facing recent adversities, communities across Manipur, including those previously displaced, have displayed incredible resilience by re-engaging in economic activities and producing value-driven products that are now accessible in both national and international markets.
Highlighting the increasing entrepreneurial spirit in the state, the Governor characterized the summit as more than just an event—it serves as a declaration of faith in Manipur’s potential to become a strategic gateway for global commerce in the Northeast.
He praised the collaborative efforts of the Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industries, MANIDCO, and MCCI, in association with national initiatives like the RAMP program from the Ministry of MSME, for empowering women-led enterprises and encouraging local business ventures.
With enhancements in logistics, an expanding digital marketplace, and its proximity to Southeast Asian nations, the Governor expressed his belief that Manipur is set for rapid advancement through global collaborations, sustainable practices, and inclusive innovation.
The two-day summit, themed ‘Bridging Business Sans Borders,’ is part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) initiative from the Union Ministry of MSME.
This event is jointly organized by the Directorate of Trade, Commerce & Industries, Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (MANIDCO), and Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI).
The Governor also toured various stalls established by local entrepreneurs during the summit, showcasing the diverse range of indigenous products and innovations from Manipur.
The event attracted participation from neighboring countries like Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Thailand, as well as representatives from Japan and several other Northeastern states of India, further emphasizing Manipur’s burgeoning potential as a center for regional and global trade.
