Mumbai, May 1 (NationPress) Senior Shiv Sena figure Sanjay Nirupam has sharply criticized Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), for being abroad with his family on Maharashtra Day. In an exclusive statement to IANS, Nirupam challenged Thackeray’s dedication to the state, labeling his absence as “an insult to the legacy of Maharashtra’s martyrs.”
“Maharashtra Day is an essential celebration observed with immense fervor throughout the state. It serves as a time to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of Maharashtra. Every political leader, regardless of their party, typically engages in the official ceremonies to honor these martyrs. Yet, during this pivotal moment, Uddhav Thackeray and his family opted to travel abroad,” Nirupam remarked.
He emphasized, “It has been 65 years since Maharashtra's formation, a milestone achieved through the sacrifices of over a hundred individuals during the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. Maharashtra Day is an opportunity to sincerely honor these martyrs, with celebrations held statewide to commemorate their legacy and the essence of the movement. However, on this vital day, Uddhav Thackeray, along with his son and family, is reported to be in the Netherlands and London. Their absence illustrates a lack of emotional connection and respect for this day’s significance. Maharashtra Day is more than just a formality; it encapsulates pride and sacrifice, and such disregard for its importance is profoundly disheartening.”
Nirupam pointed out the evident ‘contradiction’ between Thackeray’s rhetoric and his actions.
“He frequently discusses the priorities of Maharashtra, the Marathi language, Marathi pride, and the welfare of the Marathi community. Yet, on a day that commemorates the very foundation of this state, he is conspicuously absent,” Nirupam added.
Describing Thackeray’s behavior as irresponsible, Nirupam stated: “I vehemently oppose and denounce Uddhav Thackeray’s dismissive attitude towards Maharashtra and its populace. His absence on this significant day signifies not only political indifference but also a failure to respect the emotions and sentiments of the people.”
