New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) - Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Monday expressed his disapproval of the foundation-laying ceremony for a mosque resembling the Babri Masjid, conducted by suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir. He asserted that this act was not merely the decision of an individual but rather a politically motivated maneuver orchestrated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

While addressing the media outside Parliament, Giriraj Singh stated, “It’s not Humayun Kabir who is behind this, but Mamata Banerjee who has orchestrated this situation. She is crafting a narrative and compelling her MPs to support it as part of a larger political strategy.”

He went on to accuse the ceremony of potentially inflaming Hindu-Muslim tensions.

“Mamata Banerjee has raised this issue with the ulterior motive of resurrecting the Babri Masjid. The foundation stone was laid as part of a meticulously planned scheme. There are protests occurring not just in West Bengal, but she will have to face repercussions nationwide,” he added.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh also condemned the event.

Chugh told IANS, "The embodiment of cruelty, CM Mamata Banerjee, should clarify to the public how under her rule, the Trinamool Congress in Bengal is permitting mosques to be established in the name of Babur, a brutal invader who brought destruction to temples and caused the deaths of millions of Hindus. The country will align with the ideology of Parashuram, not the path of foreign conquerors and plunderers. Mamata Banerjee is putting Bengal at risk, but the people of Bengal will respond decisively.”

Tensions in Murshidabad escalated on Saturday as Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone amidst tight security. The event coincided with the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, which occurred in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.

The ceremony commenced with a recitation of the Quran, followed by the laying of the foundation stone. Kabir claimed that thousands were present, including clerics from Saudi Arabia, with slogans like “Nara-e-Takbeer” and “Allahu Akbar” echoing at the venue.

Kabir, who was suspended from the Trinamool Congress earlier this week due to the controversy, had announced the plan publicly beforehand, drawing sharp criticism from the BJP. The situation even reached the Calcutta High Court, which declined to stop the construction but instructed the state government to ensure law and order.

Post-ceremony, Kabir revealed that a budget of Rs 300 crore had been allocated for the mosque in Beldanga, which is intended to replicate the original structure demolished in Ayodhya. He also reported attempts to disrupt the event but acknowledged support from the police and district administration.

Meanwhile, distancing itself from Kabir’s actions, the Trinamool Congress declared it would observe Samhati Diwas (Unity Day) to promote communal harmony amidst rising tensions.
