Kolkata, April 6 (NationPress) Despite the rejection of permission by the university administration, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) celebrated Ram Navami on the campus of Jadavpur University (JU), a known stronghold of student organizations aligned with the Leftist ideology.

On Saturday, the university authorities announced that they could not permit the celebration due to the institution being in a leadership vacuum, following the dismissal of acting vice-chancellor Bhaskar Gupta by Governor C.V. Ananda Bose last month.

The Governor, who also serves as the chancellor of all state universities including JU, utilized his powers to remove Gupta. Alongside denying the celebration, the university administration passed a resolution on this matter.

Nonetheless, on the same day, ABVP activists declared their intent to carry on with the Ram Navami celebration despite the official prohibition. They brought an idol of Lord Ram to the campus during the night.

According to Debanjan Pal, Kolkata district secretary of ABVP, if Iftar can be held on the JU campus, there shouldn't be any issues with celebrating Ram Navami there.

“The denial of permission by the university authorities was unilateral. Yet, we remain committed to our planned event and are proceeding as scheduled. JU is not outside of West Bengal. Other than a few students linked to the extreme Left, the majority are actively participating in the celebrations,” stated Pal.

In related news, a 24-hour “peace room” was established at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on Sunday to monitor the situation regarding Ram Navami processions across various regions of the state. The public has been informed about a special helpline number and email associated with the “peace room” for immediate reporting of any tensions regarding the processions.

A dedicated team has been formed to staff the peace room around the clock, ensuring real-time monitoring of the situation.
