Amaravati, March 24 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his gratitude on Tuesday for the renewal of FCRA permissions for the Rural Development Trust (RDT). He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their role in this decision.
Reddy emphasized that this renewal under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act will allow RDT to continue its essential services in education, healthcare, environment, and social development throughout the undivided Anantapur district, greatly benefiting the impoverished and vulnerable communities reliant on the Trust.
However, the YSR Congress Party leader criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for trying to take credit for the renewal, questioning why it took almost a year to restore permissions that had been suspended since April 21, 2025.
He highlighted that the delay stemmed from a lack of action, which prompted citizens, along with YSRCP and civil society organizations, to engage in ongoing protests demanding the reinstatement of these permissions.
Reddy asserted that the renewal was achieved through public pressure and collective action, rather than any initiative from the current administration, asserting that attempts to frame it otherwise are merely publicity tactics and credit-seeking.
Earlier, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took to ‘X’ to thank Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and the Central Government for addressing the foreign funding issue concerning RDT, which has been providing invaluable assistance to the underprivileged for decades.
He remarked that the Rural Development Trust serves thousands of villages across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
A prior decision to restrict funds from abroad to voluntary organizations under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act had posed challenges to the services offered by the organization.
“However, after detailing the services provided by the organization and submitting a petition to the Union Home Minister for resolution, with his special intervention, the hurdles have been overcome today. By granting RDT permission for fund collection under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, the Central Government has facilitated the smooth inflow of funds. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Central Government on behalf of the millions of impoverished individuals benefiting from this Trust for considering the requests from state governments,” posted CM Chandrababu Naidu.
