Amaravati, Jan 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, paid significant tributes to the founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former Chief Minister, N.T. Rama Rao, on the occasion of his death anniversary, stating that he will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Telugu community.
Naidu emphasized that NTR, as he was affectionately known, was the only leader who consistently worked tirelessly for the self-respect of the Telugu population.
While addressing a gathering in Mydukur, located in YSR Kadapa district, which was organized to commemorate NTR's death anniversary, Naidu stated that NTR symbolizes an eternal memory in the hearts of the underprivileged and represents strength for the marginalized.
He proclaimed that driven by NTR's vision, the TDP will persist in its efforts to create a society free from poverty.
Reflecting on NTR's contributions to the state, the Chief Minister noted that NTR revolutionized politics, demonstrating how it could be harnessed to uplift the poor and significantly improve their lives.
Naidu reminisced that NTR set a remarkable precedent by bringing the TDP to power within just nine months of its establishment.
He highlighted that before NTR's influence, Telugus were often referred to as Madrasis, but it was NTR who provided a true identity to the community, creating a stir in New Delhi.
According to Naidu, NTR laid the groundwork for social welfare and showcased to the nation what genuine development entails.
“Inspired by NTR, we now provide a monthly pension of Rs 4,000 and it was NTR who initiated the program for pucca houses for the less fortunate. He also encouraged educated individuals to enter politics and offered substantial opportunities to leaders from the Backward Classes,” remarked the Chief Minister.
NTR was instrumental in passing legislation that granted women equal rights to property and introduced quotas for women in local governance, all aimed at empowering them in politics, he added.
Furthermore, it was NTR who initiated projects like Telugu Ganga, Handri-Neeva, and Galuru-Nagari to provide water to the drought-affected regions of Rayalaseema.
The TDP President announced that the party has achieved a milestone with one crore members. He acknowledged that after Minister for Education Nara Lokesh took on the role of TDP National General Secretary, he prioritized the welfare of party members.
“We are currently allocating Rs 130 crore for the insurance and welfare of our party workers, and we are committed to enhancing their economic wellbeing,” he concluded.
