Chandigarh, Feb 21 (NationPress) The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, conveyed heartfelt congratulations and immense respect to Jagjit Singh Bawa, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1951 batch, as he celebrates his centenary.
“As we commemorate this extraordinary milestone, the Punjab Police pays tribute to a century dedicated to duty, honour, and service to our nation,” the DGP remarked in a statement.
“A prominent figure in the Punjab cadre of the Indian Police Service, Shri Bawa embodies a generation of officers who established the strongest principles of professional, principled, and courageous policing,” the DGP expressed on his X handle (formerly Twitter), noting that the Punjab cadre has long been esteemed for its resilience, leadership, and contributions to the nation, and Bawa “is among its most illustrious representatives.”
To personally express their respect, Special DGP (Headquarters) S.S. Srivastava and DIG (Personnel) Amneet Kondal visited the veteran officer at his home.
Jagjit Singh Bawa was inducted into the service on July 13, 1951, and held various positions as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Superintendent of Police (SP) before taking on the role of SSP (Ferozepur).
He held several significant roles as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and later served as Inspector General. Subsequently, he went on central deputation as the Director of CBI in New Delhi on September 27, 1977, and retired from service on February 28, 1985, after receiving a one-year extension beyond the standard retirement age.
DGP Yadav highlighted that through his exceptional service as Inspector General (Punjab) and as the CBI Director, Bawa maintained the highest standards of integrity, institutional strength, and public trust. His legacy continues to motivate officers across generations, he added.
