Muharram 2025: Jaipur deploys 3,000 police, drones for Ashura processions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur has been placed on high alert ahead of Yaum-e-Ashura processions, with the city police and district administration deploying an extensive security and traffic management apparatus to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram. The security arrangements, announced on 26 June, cover the entire Walled City and surrounding entry points.
Security Deployment
Approximately 3,000 police personnel have been stationed across the city, supported by Quick Response Teams (QRTs), Emergency Response Teams (ERTs), intelligence units, and cyber monitoring squads. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajeev Pachar confirmed that the entire event will be monitored through drones, citywide CCTV cameras, and the Abhay Command Centre. Plain-clothes personnel have also been deployed to watch for suspicious activity, while additional forces will remain stationed at sensitive locations.
Traffic Restrictions and Diversions
Vehicle entry into the Walled City has been restricted from key access points including Sanjay Circle, Ajmeri Gate, New Gate, Sanganeri Gate, Ghat Gate, Galta Gate, and Ramgarh Mod. Heavy commercial vehicles are barred from entering via Road No. 14 (VKI), Kalwar Pulia, Sirsi Pulia, and 200-Feet Ajmer Road, among other routes. Traffic from adjoining areas will be diverted through alternate roads.
Parking has been completely prohibited along major markets and procession routes, including Chaura Rasta, Badi Chaupar, Johari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, Hawa Mahal Bazaar, Subhash Chowk, Ramganj Bazaar, Chandpole Bazaar, Tripolia Bazaar, Gangauri Bazaar, MI Road, MD Road, Gopinath Marg, Kishanpole Bazaar, and Indira Bazaar. Diversions will remain in force from Friday afternoon until late night along the procession route.
Procession Route and Tazia Assembly
Following the traditional Qatl Ki Raat observance, between 250 and 300 Tazias from different parts of Jaipur will assemble at Badi Chaupar before proceeding toward Karbala via Hawa Mahal Bazaar, Chandi Ki Taksal, Subhash Chowk, Zorawar Singh Gate, and Ramgarh Mod. Notably, the district administration has cancelled the licences of 17 Tazias identified on sensitive routes as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Cyber Surveillance and Community Coordination
The Cyber Cell will maintain round-the-clock surveillance on social media platforms. Strict action will be taken against anyone found spreading rumours or provocative content that could disturb communal harmony, according to officials. The district administration has also held coordination meetings with the Peace Committee and Community Liaison Group (CLG) members, directing that only licenced Tazias will be permitted in the processions.
Concerned departments have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted electricity, drinking water, and civic arrangements along the procession routes. The Jaipur Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to avoid restricted routes, follow diversions, and cooperate with security personnel for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the processions.
