Jaipur school shifted in 24 hours after CJP-villager clash in Rampura
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A government school in Rampura village, Jaipur, was relocated to a nearby building roughly 50 metres away on Saturday, 23 August, less than 24 hours after a confrontation between workers of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and local villagers escalated into allegations of assault, intimidation, and a law-and-order breakdown during a school inspection on Friday. The swift relocation came amid mounting pressure from CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who had warned of a dharna in Jaipur if corrective action was not taken within 48 hours.
Conditions at the New Location
The school was shifted to a house in the village, where more than 16 children were present along with two teachers on Saturday morning. The room being used for classes had previously functioned as a grocery shop. A blackboard was placed outside one of the rooms, while the room itself reportedly contained a storage chest and other belongings unrelated to schooling. Some children were seen studying in the open sun at the time of inspection. Students also reported that the ceiling fan inside was not working, leaving them uncomfortable in the heat.
Cross-Complaints Filed at Shivdaspura Police Station
Both sides filed complaints against each other at Shivdaspura police station on Saturday morning, with each accusing the other of assault and creating public disorder. Both parties have also alleged that police personnel are applying pressure on them.
CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged that party workers were assaulted in the village on Friday, with their clothes torn, and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible. He further alleged that people from outside the village had been brought in for the attack and claimed that some of those involved were later seen with local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kailash Verma. Ranka described the incident as a 'pre-planned attack' and alleged that stones were used with the intent to cause serious harm.
Ranka also alleged that police were absent from the spot despite repeated attempts to contact them, and that Pratap Nagar police were subsequently intimidating him and questioning CJP workers about him and his family.
Villagers' Counter-Allegations
In their complaint to police, villagers alleged that the CJP's arrival with a large number of people — allegedly carrying weapons — had created fear in Rampura and that children were now frightened to attend school. They denied the CJP's allegations and sought action over what they described as intimidation and disorder. Villagers said they want the government to reconstruct the school building at the earliest so that classes can resume properly within the village.
Political Dimension and Government Response
Ranka warned that the CJP would not be deterred and would continue its 'School Thik Karo' campaign. He alleged that Education Minister Madan Dilawar would face embarrassment over the state of Rajasthan's schools, and said the party's demands could now extend to seeking Dilawar's resignation.
Meanwhile, Dilawar posted on social media that continuous efforts were being made to strengthen government schools in Rajasthan, citing infrastructure development, construction and repairs, smart classrooms, laboratories, and other essential facilities.
The allegations made by both sides have yet to be independently established. The police investigation and the FIRs filed by both parties are expected to determine the sequence of events and establish responsibility for Friday's clash.
