MP targets 50% green energy, exports from all 55 districts: CM Mohan Yadav
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday, 22 August pitched the state as a premier investment destination at the World Leaders Forum in New Delhi, organised by the Economic Times, outlining an ambitious roadmap covering green energy, infrastructure expansion, and export growth under the session titled 'MP: Unlocking the Heart of India.'
Green Energy Push
Yadav said Madhya Pradesh currently holds an installed energy capacity of 31 gigawatts, of which 30 per cent is already from green sources. The state has set a target to raise that share to 50 per cent, with private companies reportedly ready to commit capital across sectors. He identified power, health, mining, and aviation as sectors with significant untapped investment potential.
Airport Expansion and Connectivity
On air connectivity, Yadav noted a sharp departure from the state's colonial-era infrastructure. From just four airports during the British period, Madhya Pradesh now has five new airports under construction and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed for five more, bringing the total pipeline to ten airports. The Chief Minister also highlighted progress on space technology and an AI city project as markers of the state's forward-looking industrial agenda.
Export Growth Across Districts
Exports currently originate from 37 of the state's 55 districts, with a stated target to achieve full coverage across all 55 districts within one-and-a-half years. Annual exports stand at approximately ₹88,000 crore. Notably, a recent MoU with a major Arab investor in the fish production sector signals growing international market acceptance — with Madhya Pradesh fish reportedly gaining traction even in West Bengal, despite the state having no ocean border.
Industrial Infrastructure and Investor Incentives
More than 340 industrial belts are under development across the state. Madhya Pradesh currently has 22 junctions, eight airports, and a land bank exceeding one lakh acres. As a power-surplus state, it offers government assistance of up to ₹5,000 per employee to investors, alongside industrial land priced well below cost. Plug-and-play facilities and targeted subsidies are also being positioned as differentiators for incoming businesses.
Telecom and Roadshow Outcomes
The Chief Minister flagged the telecom sector in Gwalior as a high-growth area. Roadshows held in Delhi and Mumbai have each generated investment proposals exceeding ₹5,500 crore, aggregating to more than ₹10,000 crore in total commitments. Yadav said the government's strong industry-first posture — including below-cost land pricing — is positioning Madhya Pradesh as a preferred destination for domestic and global capital. All eyes now turn to whether these investment proposals translate into ground-level project execution in the months ahead.
