Jammu & Kashmir SEC Expands SDRF Disaster List by Five

Jammu, Dec 10 (NationPress) The meeting of the J&K State Executive Committee (SEC) regarding the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) has granted approval for the addition of five more local disasters to the already acknowledged disaster list in accordance with SDRF standards.

An official announcement indicated that the SEC members reached a consensus on the inclusion of these five local disasters into the existing list as per SDRF criteria. The newly added disasters consist of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF), lightning and thunderstorms, heavy snowfall, man-animal conflict incidents, and boat capsizing.

These disasters have been recognized as specific to J&K to facilitate the disbursement of benefits to those affected, adhering to the guidelines and standards established under the SDRF.

Furthermore, the SEC approved the release of over Rs 6 Cr in favor of the Deputy Commissioners of Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Srinagar, Rajouri, and Ramban for their requisition of additional funds to cover expenses arising from various disasters that have transpired in these districts this year.

The committee also decided to allocate an amount of Rs 6.5 Cr to HG/CD/SDRF for the modernization of the force, which includes the provision of diverse equipment like drones, remote-controlled lifebuoys, fire entry suits, power descenders, and battery-operated cutter cum spreaders.

Other agenda items discussed during this SEC meeting included the allocation of Rs 50 lakhs for SDRF capacity building through training programs, mock drills, and preparedness activities planned for the upcoming financial year. Additionally, the SEC agreed to provide Rs 30 lakhs to the department for the enhancement of the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) located in J&K.
