Jamnagar, Feb 18 (NationPress) - The city of Jamnagar in Gujarat has carved out a significant niche on the global industrial landscape, largely thanks to its vibrant micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Revered as the “Brass City of India,” Jamnagar caters to various industries, including Indian Railways and defense, delivering products that adhere to global quality benchmarks.

Support from the state government in terms of modern machinery, skill enhancement, and technological advancements has bolstered the local economy and created job opportunities for thousands of young individuals.

According to Darshik Kedia, a brass trader in Jamnagar, “We appreciate the initiatives from both the Gujarat and Central governments aimed at our industries; however, we seek more direct benefits.”

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state’s cluster development framework has played a pivotal role in elevating Jamnagar’s brass sector to international standards.

Various programs such as common facility centers, testing laboratories, logistics assistance, simplified loan access, and export promotion have directly aided MSMEs.

Avanti Parmar, a technician at Meta Lab Research and Analytical Foundation, shared, “We conduct metallic and chemical analysis on samples to assess the percentage of metals present.”

Ramji Bhai, chief of GIDC Jamnagar, emphasized, “With the government designating Jamnagar’s brass industry as a cluster industry, the announcement of a special package could usher in a golden age.”

In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a self-reliant India, brass products from Jamnagar are making their way into international markets.

Shobhna Rathod, regional manager at the District Industries Centre, remarked, “The Gujarat Self-Reliant Policy 2022, which supports brass components and MSME units, is presently operational. Incentives are allocated based on category and taluka.”

The city is home to approximately 8,000 small and large enterprises engaged in brass component manufacturing, employing over 300,000 individuals.

Industry analysts highlight that Jamnagar exemplifies how a successful interplay of governmental policy, industrial expertise, and MSME vigor can transform local production into a beacon of national progress.

Government and development entities have introduced organized support for this industrial cluster.

The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has deployed an economic development agency to tackle both financial and non-financial challenges, aiding in quality control, lean manufacturing techniques, and export facilitation within the brass parts cluster.

Furthermore, the state government has recognized Jamnagar’s brass parts industry as a priority cluster, offering shared facilities, skill development initiatives, and export promotion assistance to enhance competitiveness and weave local units into global supply chains.
