Prayagraj, January 26 (NationPress) In a bid to guarantee access to affordable and high-quality medicines for visitors at Mahakumbh 2025, five Jan Aushadhi centres have been established in Mahakumbh Nagar.
One such centre is situated in Kalagram, part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) initiated by the government.
The government has confirmed that these centres will operate for the entire duration of the Mahakumbh Mela.
Ravi Dadhich, CEO of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), visited the Jan Aushadhi Stall and other centres in Prayagraj on Saturday.
He stated that “buying medicines from Jan Aushadhi centres results in savings of 50 to 90 percent for the public.”
During his visit, he engaged with visitors and centre operators to discuss the advantages and functions of the PMBJP.
The CEO further mentioned that there are currently 2,633 Jan Aushadhi centres in Uttar Pradesh, with 62 centres operating in Prayagraj.
Nationwide, over 15,000 centres have been established under the Jan Aushadhi Scheme, with a goal of reaching 25,000 centres, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
This year, the objective for medicine sales through these centres is Rs 2,000 crore, of which more than Rs 1,500 crore has already been achieved, according to Dadhich.
He explained how Mahakumbh devotees can locate the nearest Jan Aushadhi centre using a pin-code based system and informed them about the range of available affordable medicines.
The scheme is facilitated through the PMBI. Jan Aushadhi Kendras are dedicated centres that provide quality medicines at low prices to the general public.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, PMBI, under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, reported sales of Rs 1,470 crore, resulting in savings of approximately Rs 7,350 crore for citizens.
Over the past decade, around Rs 30,000 crore has been saved under this initiative.
Additionally, the first international Jan Aushadhi Kendra has opened in Mauritius.
