Ara (Bihar), April 1 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra (PMBJK), a significant initiative by the Narendra Modi administration, is quickly becoming a symbol of hope for the people of Bihar's Ara. Situated within the Ara Sadar Hospital, this Kendra offers affordable medications for various serious health issues, including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney problems, and cancer.
Patients and their families eagerly line up at the first Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Ara, seeking access to life-saving medications at significantly lower costs. The center also provides sanitary pads for women at much cheaper prices than those found in the market, thereby further addressing the community's health needs.
In a conversation with IANS, Nagendra Chaudhary stated: "This is the first shop in Bhojpur district located in the Sadar Hospital. While there are other pharmacies outside, our Jan Aushadhi Kendra offers medicines at reduced prices. All essential medications for hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are available here. Sometimes the stock depletes quickly due to high demand, as people wish to stock up on affordable medications for chronic conditions. This initiative is Modi Ji's dream project, delivering quality medicines to the underprivileged at reasonable prices. It is common for people to purchase multiple boxes of medicines to keep at home."
To ensure quality generic medicines are available at affordable prices for everyone, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana was launched in November 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, under the Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers, in collaboration with Central Pharma Public Sector Undertakings.
Under this scheme, dedicated outlets known as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras are established to provide generic medicines at budget-friendly prices.
Every year, March 7 is observed as 'Jan Aushadhi Diwas' to promote awareness about the scheme and encourage the use of generic medicines. Recently, a week-long series of events were held nationwide from March 1 to 7 to support this initiative.
