Jammu, Feb 17 (NationPress) The Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of J&K announced on Tuesday the capture of an absconding suspect from Maharashtra.
"In a notable advancement in the investigation of FIR No. 09/2023, which is registered under Sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station ANTF Jammu, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force has successfully apprehended an absconding individual from Maharashtra following persistent efforts. The suspect, identified as Arif Ibrahim Sayyed, son of Ibrahim Sayyed, residing at Sooraj Apartment, Shadi Mahal, Insha Nagar, Mumbra (Thane, Maharashtra), was sought as a co-accused in the interconnected case," stated the agency.
Sayyed had been eluding capture for approximately 2–3 years despite relentless efforts by the investigative agency.
According to the ANTF, substantial evidence emerged during the investigation, highlighting his participation in the narcotics distribution network associated with the case. To ensure his appearance before the law, arrest warrants were duly procured under Section 24 of the Police Act from a Jammu court.
"Upon receiving specific intelligence regarding his location, a dedicated team from ANTF Jammu traveled to Mumbra, Maharashtra. With the cooperation of the local NDPS Police Team, Mumbra (Thane), the suspect was apprehended on February 14 following thorough surveillance and tracking. After his arrest, he was presented before the nearest Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Thane, from where a police transit remand was obtained in accordance with legal procedures.
The ANTF emphasized that Sayyed's arrest constitutes a significant step in dismantling the inter-state narcotics network linked to this case.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further connections and identify other individuals involved in the drug trafficking operations, it added.
The ANTF reiterated its strong commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that all offenders are brought to justice, regardless of their location.
